Local News Briefs Tuesday 11/24/15
During a
rare Tuesday night meeting the

the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Councilman Brian Foster. The
Council currently has six members. Also during the meeting Public Works
Director Jordan Skiff will give the Council an update on a proposal for a
Lakeside Park Master Plan. The Council will also consider approving resolutions
for special use permits that would allow Commonwealth Development to develop
the St. Mary’s and
schools into apartments, townhouses and cottage-style units. The Council meets

Celebrates International Education Month
International Education efforts are getting a chance to study both here and
abroad. Amy Edwards Patterson is the Communications Instructor for the program.
She says International Education is being celebrated around the world this
month because it is International Education Month. She says MPTC has five short
term programs, but some students also get the chance to study abroad during the
summer. She says last month they sponsored students from

Tree Safety
The
Division Chief of Fire Prevention for
du Lac
with a real Christmas tree this season. Troy Haase says whether you’re cutting
the tree yourself or picking one up at a tree lot make sure the tree gets
plenty of water. He says water will keep the needles from drying up and
becoming a potential fire hazard. Haase also says when you’re decorating the
tree use power strips instead of multiple extension cords because if something
shorts out it will prevent a fire. He also recommends keeping the tree from
blocking any possible exits.
Talk On
Estate Planning At FDL Public Library Tonight
Attorney
Ron Hammer of the Fond du Lac law firm Averbeck & Hammer will present
“Estate Planning: Things to Think of While You Can Still Think” tonight at 6
p.m. at the Fond du Lac Public Library. He will discuss planned giving for
those who would like to support at community institution, organization, charity
or place of worship. There will be plenty of time for questions. The program is
free and registration is not required.
The Oshkosh
Police Department found a “small zoo” on Saturday after an anonymous tip reported a person housing exotic animals. When officers arrived at the
residence in the 3700 block of
Lane
a 2 ½ foot alligator, eight snakes and spiders. In total 29 animals were found. The investigation continues and
placement for the animals is taking place. The Oshkosh Police Department says
there is an ordinance in the city prohibiting people owning those types of
animals.
Home Sales Update
The Wisconsin home market continued
to rise in the month of October across the state, but not in
