Police Investigating FDL Man’s Death After Arrest

Police are investigating the death of a 37-year-old Fond du
Lac man who died after being taken into police custody Sunday night. Around
9:31 pm, Fond du Lac Police performed a traffic stop on a vehicle near the
intersection of Division Street and Main Street for a traffic violation. The Sheriff’s
Department K-9 unit was also assisting at the scene. Police determined the man
was out on bail for a previous incident and was taken into custody for
violating the conditions of his bond. The man began showing signs of medical
distress while in the back of a police squad car and was transported by
ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital where he later died. The cause of death is
under investigation pending autopsy results. Three Fond du Lac Police Officers
that were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave during
the investigation as is standard department procedure. The City of Sheboygan
Police has assumed the lead role in investigating the death per Wisconsin State
Law.
