Rain Followed by Dry, Warm Weather Leads to Mosquito Boom
Unusually large rainfalls followed by recent dry and warm weather have created the perfect conditions for mosquitoes to breed – leading to the abundance of mosquitoes we’ve seen throughout the Fox Valley. Entomologists say they are attracted to carbon dioxide, or anything that breathes – and that bug spray is having little impact on them. Experts say once temperatures drop under 50 degrees, mosquitoes will go into winter hibernation – and then will be gone for the season after a good freeze sets in.
