Robert Knipschilds Work Now On View At THELMA

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced that local pediatrician Amy Flores, MD, FAAP, has submitted three works of art by her father, renowned artist Robert Knipschild, to be displayed at THELMA.

Born in Freeport, Illinois, Robert Knipschild studied art under Zoltan Sepeshy at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1950, at the age of 23, his work was selected for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s widely acclaimed exhibition “American Painting Today.” Knipschild’s work has been exhibited in the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, among others. In 1977, five of his paintings were acquisitioned by the Smithsonian Institution’s Hirschhorn Museum. After a brief illness, Robert Knipschild passed away on November 20, 2004.

Beam, Beyond the Islands, and Court Nine are three oil paintings from Flores’ private collection of Knipschild’s work. The work is displayed on THELMA’s lower level, alongside pieces from the permanent collection and several other temporary loans from area and international artists.

This temporary loan marks the start of a longer-term partnership between THELMA and Flores, with plans in place to continually rotate additional pieces of Knipschild’s work from Flores’ private collection.

THELMA is located at 51 Sheboygan St., in the heart of Downtown Fond du Lac’s Arts and Entertainment District. THELMA is a member-based, privately-funded non-profit dedicated to providing arts experiences not readily available in the area. Intimate concerts in the Great Hall, street concerts with major performers, indoor films, and art from world-renowned artists are available at THELMA. THELMA also offers a stunning backdrop for weddings, meetings and all social and corporate gatherings.
