Sabish Elves Making Santa’s Nice List

Seventh graders at Sabish Middle School in Fond du Lac have donned dual roles for the holidays to brighten the Christmas season for kindergartners in the city. It’s the fifth year that those seventh graders have also played the role of elves. Teacher Gina Rieder started the program. It involves 142 elves and will benefit over 200 kindergartners this season. Rieder says she’s seen the poverty rate grow in the schools over 28 years with the district. She says the need is great enough that they provide for all of the schools in the district. A make shift North Pole is set up in a back room at the school and Skype is used to allow the elves to talk with the kindergartners to find out what they want for Christmas. Makayla Lee and her family have really gotten into the elf role adopting a child for the holiday. They’ve spent over $200 on gifts and also raised money for the elves’ program. She can’t wait until they distribute the gifts to the kindergartners next week. She wants to see their reactions to what they get. Donations for the program can be dropped off at the school.
