Two Men Seriously Injured in Separate Crashes in FDL County

Two men suffered serious injuries in separate crashes in
the Town of Byron Friday evening. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and
Oakfield Fire Department were called just before 8:30 pm to a report of a semi-truck
that had crashed in the area of Highway 175 and County Road F. When sheriff’s deputies
arrived on scene they found the semi had ended up on the railroad tracks.
Investigators determined the truck had been eastbound on County F when it
gradually drove off the south shoulder and over the bridge guardrail, going
airborne and landing on the tracks- which are 30 feet below. The driver was
identified as Paul Hebert, he was able to climb out of the semi with assistance
from paramedics. Hebert was transported to St. Agnes Hospital for treatment. The
crash remains under investigation, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The second incident happened around 10 pm, while Oakfield
Firefighters were providing traffic control for the semi crash scene at the
intersection of County Road F and Hickory Road. A man, identified as Marion Shafer,
had stopped to talk to the firefighters. Shafer ultimately did not completely shift
his vehicle into park and left it in reverse. As he exited the car, Shafer was
hit by the drivers side door and then partially run over by the driver’s side
front tire. He was taken by ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital for treatment.
