SMSA Moves “High-Risk” Sports to Spring; Tennis & Cross Country Remain in Fall

St. Mary’s Springs Academy has decided to move “high risk”
sports to the WIAA’s “alternative” fall season, while the “low risk” sports of
Girls Tennis and Boys and Girls Cross Country will continue with their fall
seasons.

The SMSA Board of Directors said in a statement that the
decision to move sports including Football, Girls Volleyball, Boys Soccer and Cheerleading
to the spring, “provides the best opportunity for our student athletes to
experience as close to a ‘normal’ season as possible.” The board cited the move
as following guidelines from the Fond du Lac County Health Department, and said
that having those sports compete in the spring will allow for families to be in
attendance at events, something that would not be allowed in the fall.

The majority of Flyway Conference schools announced last
week they would be choosing the spring season for their fall sports. Omro,
meanwhile will be moving forward with fall sports – as its school board has approved its high-risk sports continuing competition this fall. The Foxes will
play a modified schedule against teams from the East Central Conference and the
South Central Conference.
