The Wisconsin Football team has its new Defensive Coordinator. Head Coach Paul Chryst announced that Jim Leonhard has been tabbed for the post, to take over for the departed Justin Wilcox who took the head coaching job at California. Leonhard played safety at Wisconsin and was a three-time All-American honoree who played in every game of his four year career for the Badgers. Leonhard was the team’s defensive backs coach last year.

Former University of Wisconsin Men’s Hockey coach Jeff Sauer has died at the age of 73. Sauer had been suffering from Pancreatic Cancer. Sauer was the Badgers’ coach from 1982 to 2002 and led the team to 489 victories, the most for a UW coach in any sport. He guided the Badgers to two WCHA regular season titles in 1990 and 2000 and to five WCHA Playoff crowns in 1983, 1988, 1990, 1995 and 1998. Wisconsin won two NCAA titles under Sauer in 1983 and 1990.

Bucks general manager John Hammond says Hawes and Hibbert provide “depth and versatility” and says the trade also gives the team future salary cap flexibility. The Bucks also requested waivers on forward Steve Novak, who appeared in eight games this season. The 28-year-old Hawes has averaged 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 35 games, including one start, for Charlotte this season. The 30-year-old Hibbert has averaged 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 42 games, including 13 starts. The 28-year-old Plumlee has started 12 of 32 games for Milwaukee, averaging 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds. He was a first-round pick by Indiana in 2012.
