Sports Headlines:

>>Badgers Basketball Projected To Finish 3rd In Big Ten

(Madison, WI)  —  CBS Sports is predicting the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team will finish third in the Big Ten Conference this winter.  Coach Greg Gard’s team won its last eight games to finish the shortened season and it’s returning the top five scorers.  With big men Micah Potter and Nate Reuvers leading the way, Wisconsin is expected to be one of the most balanced teams in the conference.  Three of the five experts on the CBS panel predicted they would finish second, but one put them in fourth.  The Badgers shared the league title last season with Maryland and Michigan State.  Wisconsin will be trying to repeat for the first time in 18 seasons.

>>Packers To Sign LB James Burgess Junior Off Atlanta Falcons Practice Squad

(Green Bay, WI)  —  Multiple sources are reporting the Green Bay Packers will sign veteran linebacker James Burgess Junior off the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.  That will give defensive coordinator Mike Pettine some depth at the inside linebacker position while he waits for starter Christian Kirksey to be activated.  Burgess still has to pass COVID-19 protocols before he can be added to the 53-man roster.  The Packers put backup cornerback Parry Nickerson on injured reserve Tuesday, giving them three open roster positions before signing Burgess.  He has started 21 games in the last three seasons and led the New York Jets with 80 combined tackles last year.

>>Bucks May Be Looking At Obtaining All-Star Victor Oladipo

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  The Milwaukee Bucks could be looking at the addition of All-Star Victor Oladipo as they try to restructure their roster for a deeper run in the postseason.  Oladipo reportedly has one year left on his contract with the Indiana Pacers and he’s coming off a subpar performance while working his way back from a ruptured quad tendon suffered in January 2019.  Oladipo made the NBA All-Star game roster in his first two seasons.  The 28-year-old shooting guard has averaged 17 points, four assists, and four-and-a-half rebounds-a-game during his seven seasons in the league.  The Bucks are trying to build a roster that shows they are serious about competing for championships – so superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will sign a long-term deal with the franchise.

>>Badgers Will Try To Limit TOs When Illini Visit Friday Night

(Madison, WI)  —  When they lost last year’s game against Illinois, 24-23, the Badgers had 100 more total yards, double the time of possession, 40 minutes to 20, and were nine-of-17 on third down.  Turnovers snapped a six-game unbeaten streak in Champaign.  Players and coaches say they aren’t looking for revenge this week, just a win.  They’ve been waiting.  The season should have started nearly two months ago.  When the visitors take the field at Camp Randall Friday, their offense will be an experienced one with quarterback Brandon Peters returning, along with four-of-five offensive linemen.  They’re expected to go to the air more this time, meaning a strong Badger pass rush is imperative.  Kickoff time is 7:00 p-m.
