Ronald D. Smet
Ronald D. Smet, 83, of Fond du Lac, passed away on February 2, 2021 at his home. He was born on July 15, 1937 to Hubert J. and Marcella F. (Green) Smet in Fond du Lac. In 1955, Ron joined the Army and graduated from High School. He was stationed in Alaska.
He married Jean Rae West on June 6, 1959 at St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac. Jean preceded Ron in death in 2017. Ron worked for Mercury Marine for almost 40 years. He retired and then worked as a crossing guard in the Fond du Lac School system until his passing.
Ron enjoyed gardening, he especially enjoyed growing tomatoes. Throughout his life, he had many dogs; they were his constant companions. He truly never met a dog that he didn’t like.
Ron is survived by his children, Linda Johnson, Jeffrey Smet (Kristin), Gregory Smet (Dawn) and Gail Kind (Scott). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Stormy), Nicole (Jared), Amanda, Jonathan (Nina), Tyler (Stephanie), Carrie (Austin), Melinda, Marisa, Madelyn, Kaylynn and Keegan; step grandchildren Aurelia and Jocelyn; his step siblings, Cheryl Eilert; Jim (Robin) Bogenhagen and Thomas Bogenhagen; other relatives, friends and his loving canine companion, Valerie.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean; his parents; his step mother and one grandson, Brian Smet.
Visitation: Ron’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 200 S. Peters Avenue in Fond du Lac. Masks will be required and social distancing will be maintained.
Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday following the visitation at 12:00 PM. Entombment will take place in the Chapel of the Risen Christ, Calvary Mausoleum. Masks will be required and social distancing will be maintained.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Humane Society or any animal welfare organization.
