Workers Put Out Fire At Cheese Plant In Alto

Roofing contractors, working at the Saputo Cheese Plant in Alto, became fire fighters for a short time Tuesday.

The construction contractors were working on the roof at the plant Tuesday morning, about 9:15 a.m., when the fire broke out.

The workers used almost two dozen fire extinguishers to put out the blaze.

Arriving fire crews were able to remove multiple layers of roofing material in an area that was home to hot spots, and remained on the scene for almost two hours.

There were no injuries reported, and no further details were given as to the extent of the damages.
