FDL County DA To File Election Fraud Charges

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric J. Toney held a press conference Thursday (February 10, 2022) and discussed charges that will be filed regarding election fraud.

In the conference Toney said, “Elections are the cornerstone of our democracy and the integrity of the electoral process must be protected at every turn, regardless of political preference.

“Elections have been under scrutiny for years, perhaps more than ever since the November 3, 2020 election. This has led to heightened citizen engagement and calls to hold those accountable that violate election laws.”

Toney went on to say a citizen election fraud complaint has resulted in an investigation by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department and election fraud charges to be filed against 5 individuals, who all had a P.O. Box at the UPS Store in downtown Fond du Lac, as their registered address used for voting purposes.

Toney said it appears none of the five knew each other, but all illegally registered to vote by using the P.O Box with the UPS address. The five will now face charges of Election Fraud-Falsely Procuring Voter Registration.

Three of the five people charged voted in the 2020 election, but Toney did point out the investigation was prompted by the citizen complaint, not because of political motivation, and that the fraud would not have changed any election results in Fond du Lac County.

The investigation process began back on November 22, 2021, after the complaint was filed.

The five were identified as Markeis Carter, Sam Wells, Jamie Marie Wells, Jeffrey Testroete, and Lawrence Klug.

The charges are Class I Felonies, with a punishment of up to 3 years and 6 months in prison and/or a fine up to $10,000.

No appearances have been made in court yet, and Toney did say there were no warrants for arrests issued as of yet.
