Adorno heroics lead Marian men’s hoops to record 10th straight win

In a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Marian Sabres secured a dramatic overtime victory against Aurora winning a record 9th straight to start the season. The entire first half was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging blows and keeping the game within a single possession. Marian managed to hold a slim 27-24 lead late in the half, but a clutch three-pointer from Aurora tied the game at 27 a piece as the teams headed into the locker rooms.

The second half mirrored the intensity of the first, with Marian briefly pulling ahead 38-34 with 11:26 remaining—the only multi-possession lead for the Sabres in regulation. However, the lead was short-lived as Aurora fought back, eventually taking a 48-47 lead before scoring five consecutive points to extend their advantage to four, marking their largest lead and longest scoring run of the game.

As the clock wound down, the game remained tightly contested. Aurora held a 56-53 lead with just 6.4 seconds left, but Marian’s Junior Brandon Adorno delivered a heroic moment. Adorno raced the length of the court and nailed a step-back bank-shot triple at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Aurora initially took a 59-58 lead, but Marian responded with a decisive 7-1 run to go up 65-60 with 1:33 left on the clock. The Sabres’ defense then clamped down, and their precision at the free-throw line—going 7-of-8 in the final 50 seconds—sealed the hard-fought victory.

This thrilling win showcased the resilience and determination of the Marian Sabres giving them a record of 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the NACC.
