Almost 190,000 deer killed during Wisconsin deer hunting season
The Wisconsin DNR has released their 2024 deer hunting numbers.
In total, hunters harvested 189,622 deer during the gun season. Up about 9,000 or 5% over last years numbers. Of those, just under 90,000 were antlered bucks. The DNR says that 553,652 gun licenses were obtained for this years hunt. Up only about 180 over last year.
And only one gun hunting accident was reported this year when a 14-year-old in Vernon County was accidentally shot in both feet. In that incident, the teen and his father heard a distant shot and shortly after the teen felt pain in his feet and found that he was shot through both the left and right foot. He was transported privately to the hospital and received medical treatment for his injuries. The shooter has been identified, and an investigation is pending.
The gun season was from Saturday, November 23 to Sunday, December 1.
