Amazing Reading Series At THELMA

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced today an exciting lineup for the 2016-2017 Foot of the Lake Reading Series.

The Reading Series, which is free and open to the public, will be held the first Tuesday of the month, except for the first one which is Thursday, September 15. This kick-off event includes the eclectic chamber jazz duo PoetryMusic.

Chris Lee and Colleen O’Brien, will bring their original style to THELMA’s Great Hall, utilizing the HD projector and screen as well as the near-perfect acoustics in that space. PoetryMusic is dedicated to performing poetry that has been set to music, music composed to poetry and poetry as a catalyst for free improvisation.

The 2016-2017 season includes: John Koethe – an American poet, essayist and professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee – will be held October 4; Alison Townsend – who was on last year’s schedule but had to cancel due to inclement weather is the first poet to receive the UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Regional Literary Award – November 1; Ron Rindofiction writer and professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh December 6; Favorite Poem Readings – a traditionally fun event featuring community members – will be held February 7; and the ever popular Student Invitational April 4. Guest on March 7 and May 2 will be announced soon.

The Reading Series includes readings by the guest writer, then open mic and then the guest closes the event. It is always free. Foot of the Lake has the longest running poetry collective in Wisconsin.
