And the smoke hangs on…

Wildfire smoke continues to result in poor air quality for the Upper Midwest, and while we’ve been blaming fires in Canada, we may start adding smoke from wildfires in the western US into the mix.

The smoke that’s been affecting Wisconsin can be traced all the way south to the gulf coast. This smoke has come from fires in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.

While fires are still raging up there, the smoke over the next few days will be moving north, however there is so much smoke already down in this area, and with high pressure moving through with not much in the form of winds, that smoke has been hanging around.

Because of this, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has again extended the Air Quality Advisory for Fond du Lac County as well as most of Wisconsin. Each day for the last five days the advisory was to end at noon, but smoke has held on, causing for the extension.

Now wildfires in six western states will start adding to the problem. As of today, forecasting models show that smoke having a bit of trouble making it east over the Rocky Mountains, but that won’t stay the case for long.

The DNR says Conditions will continue to be reevaluated on a day-to-day basis.
