Apartment Fire In Waupun Draws Large Fire Response From Local Departments

A fire which started on a second story balcony in an apartment building in Waupun Wednesday, May 24, 2023 spread quick and drew a response from several fire departments.

At 1:15 PM, Waupun Fire Crews responded to the Parkview Apartment complex at 1106 Rock Avenue for a fire in a second floor apartment.

Upon arrival, fire had spread to a second apartment unit and to the eaves, stretching the length of the building.

The department instantly asked for mutual aid up to a 3rd level in the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System to bring in additional help from neighboring communities.

First arriving crews confirmed that everyone was out of the building and began fire suppression efforts outside the building before making entry into the building.

Crews removed portions of the ceilings in 4 units due to fire spreading into the attic space.

A majority of the fire was knocked down in 45 minutes however firefighters remained on scene for over three hours checking for hot spots.

The 16-unit, 2-story apartment building owned by Integrity Investments, Inc. out of Brookfield, Wisconsin sustained significant damage to two units as well as to portions of the roof’s structure. Four other units sustained damaged due to water and overhaul operations.

A Family Assistance Center was set up at the Waupun Senior Center for the 22 residents. 19 individuals are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No firefighters or individuals at the scene were hurt during the incident, but one cat was taken for medical treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it appears to have originated on a second floor balcony.
