Architectural firm to design new jail announced at Fond du Lac County board meeting

Fond du Lac County is one step closer to getting a new controversial jail built.

At the County Board meeting Tuesday night, February 17, 2026, it was announced that the company Venture Architects LLC won the bid and will complete a phase one schematic design for two different sites being considered for the new jail. The two locations are on Scott Road near the county highway department and on Western Avenue, near the existing jail sits.

County leaders approved appropriating more than $211,000 from a contingency fund to pay for this phase of the project.

The jail project has caused a stir in the county recently after inaccurate costs reaching $400 million were released.
