Area schools placed on lockdown for possible active threats
Several area schools were placed on lockdown yesterday and had heavy police presence after a generic threat was passed around on social media.
Noticed Tuesday night, the post said the person was going to “shoot up North High School and kill as many people as I can.”
It was unknown which North High School the poster was referencing, so out of an abundance of caution, police responded to the three known North High Schools in the area. Those would be Oshkosh, Sheboygan and Appleton, though, as authorities said, it could have been anywhere in the country as no community was mentioned in the threat.
No issues were found at either school.
The Waupun High School also was on lockdown yesterday but for an unrelated reason.
At about 1:00 PM an active threat alarm was triggered at the Waupun Jr/Sr High School and a lockdown was put in place. The school building was secured and searched by law enforcement but no active threat was located and it was found there was no threat to the students, staff, school, or the community.
Unofficial reports on social media report the alarm was triggered by accident.
