Armed robbery suspect captured in Campbellsport

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted the West Bend police department taking an armed robbery suspect into custody Saturday night in Campbellsport.

Deputies converged on a residence on west Main Street in the village after West Bend Police advised them a person involved in an armed robbery involving a firearm that occurred earlier in the day in their city was at the Campbellsport address.

The suspect had recently been released from federal prison after serving a lengthy sentence, and because of his violent past and use of a firearm in the recent robbery, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deployed their armored vehicle to assist.

While West Bend police worked to secure a warrant and a SWAT tactical strategy was being planned, the suspect left the residence in a vehicle. Fond du Lac County Deputies that were watching over the house conducted a high-risk traffic stop and the suspect was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the West Bend Police Department. Assisting Fond du Lac County and West Bend Police were the Campbellsport Police Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations.
