Wisconsin’s annual winter heating disconnection moratorium ends April 15, 2026. This moratorium prevents utility providers from shutting off residents’ essential heat services due to unpaid bills. Consumers should be aware that scammers impersonate utility providers and contact Wisconsin phone numbers with threats to shut off services if they do not pay immediately. The scammers claim consumers have overdue/unpaid bills and often ask to be paid in gift cards, cryptocurrency, a banking app, or by wire transfer.
