Aurora Medical Center of Fond du Lac brings specialized domestic/sexual abuse care program to Fond du Lac

The Aurora Medical Center of Fond du Lac has announced they have implemented a program new to the Fond du Lac area that will benefit domestic abuse victims.

With domestic abuse related calls on the rise, according to the Fond du Lac Police Department, the SANE program comes at a critical time. SANE stands for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner which is a registered nurse who has completed additional education and training to provide comprehensive health care to victims of sexual assault or other violence. They’re specialized in working with victims who may have experienced sexual assault or domestic abuse including children and the elderly.

Aurora says victims can access the program through Aurora Medical Center of Fond du Lac’s emergency room and urgent care with their eight bay emergency department having a specialized and dedicated patient room to provide sensitive care, security and privacy to victims.

The SANE program has been available at the Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh for over 20 years, seeing an average of 200 patients each year, which they say has included victims from Fond du Lac. Aurora says offering SANE to the Fond du Lac community will expand the program to reach more people at risk and reduce barriers like travel for people who need immediate care.

The implementation of the program coincidentally comes in October which is Domestic Violence awareness month.
