Bitter cold air grips area

An Artic airmass has moved over the north central portion of the US which has plummeted temperatures in the area.

A cold weather advisory is in effect for Fond du Lac County until 11 AM today, Monday, February 17, 2025, and another advisory will take effect Monday night at 9 PM and extends to noon Tuesday.

very cold wind chills as low as 25 below are expected this morning, especially in outlying areas and windchills tonight could approach -30 degrees with the actual air temperature dropping to -15 degrees.

The National Weather Service says wind chills 25 below zero and lower can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. If outside, wear appropriate clothing such as a hat and gloves, and If traveling, be sure to have a winter survival kit, should you experience a breakdown or get stuck.

Keep cellphone batteries fully charged when possible because they drain fast when they get cold.

The cold weather looks to grip the area all week with the next chance of breaking the freezing mark being Sunday the 23rd, when the forecasted high is 33.
