Blood Donors Stepping Up But More Still Needed

Since announcing the shortage of blood on hand in hospitals nationwide last month, the Red Cross says 1000s of people have stepped up to donate, but they say the need for
blood is still outpacing the donations, so another plea for additional donors is going out.

According to the Red Cross, an additional 10,000 blood and platelet donations each week over the next month would be needed to meet patient needs. As an incentive for donors, all who donate between Oct. 21-Nov. 9 will receive a $10 gift card by email to a restaurant of their choice. Donors will also be entered to win a $5,000 gift card. There will be three winners – one chosen at random each week. Details are available at the website RedCrossBlood.org/Lunch.
