Boating Accident Sends 11-year Old To Hospital
An 11-year old boy sustained serious injuries Sunday afternoon as a result of a boat landing accident.
FDL County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out Sunday afternoon(8/15/21) at 12:06 p.m. to the Columbia Park boat landing for a report of a male who sustained injuries to his legs after being struck by a boat propeller.
Preliminary investigation shows the child was attempting to climb into a boat after tubing, when he fell off the ladder and onto the propeller. The incident occurred on Lake Winnebago.
The operator of the boat, a 30 year old male from New Holstein, along with 4 of his children were on the boat at the time of the incident. One of the children from the boat realized the boy needed help, so she along with another individual from a nearby vessel, jumped into the water to help the 11 year old. They were able to get him into the boat, called for medical help, and drove him to the Columbia Park boat landing.
Assistance at the scene was provided by Mt. Calvary Ambulance, Town of Calumet First Responders and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
