Brother/Sister Duo to Perform in “Classical Bites” with Kettle Moraine Symphony

Friday May 16th is the “Classical Bites” concert highlighting small ensembles of the Kettle Moraine Symphony.
Performed at the Tower Heritage Center Courthouse in West Bend, ensembles will play 14 pieces ranging from classical to modern and with running times between three and ten minutes each.
Brother and sister duo Joseph Steinbart on viola and Melody Steinbart on violin will play two pieces, Laments Music and Die Erlkönig (The Erl King). Joseph Steinbart says, as a duo, he and Melody enjoy playing in small ensemble concerts because of the communication players can have with one another as they play over full orchestra works.
They found Laments Music by playing a song by the composer’s father. “We heard a recording of the piece and fell in love with the beauty and simplicity of it. We enjoy playing works from current composers that are melodic and not only interesting for us to play but enjoyable to our audience to listen to.” He added that, “We initially chose “The Erl King” because we wanted something fun and interesting to play. While the story that goes with the song is morbid, the characters that are displayed throughout the song are very fascinating to play. We enjoy creating each of the characters as we play.”
The Steinbarts are well known in our area for their musical contributions to the Kettle Moraine Symphony and Maranatha Baptist University, where Melody is a faculty member. Joseph is a member of the Lake Country Strings.
You can hear the Steinbarts and other talented small ensembles, made possible in part by the Washington County Charitable Foundation, on Friday, May 16th at 7 p.m. For more information on this unique concert go to https://kettle-moraine-symphony.betterworld.org/events/classical-bites.
