Brown County Officer Accidentally Shoots Self While Responding To Call

A Brown County law enforcement official suffered a gunshot wound while dealing with a barricaded subject Wednesday afternoon December 7, 2022, but the bullet didn’t come from the suspect. It came from the officers own service weapon.
Early Wednesday morning a call came in to the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department, to check the welfare of a 30-year-old man from the area.
Officers were unable to locate the man until about 1 PM when an officer saw him driving a small silver car.
The officer attempted to pull the man over but he fled in an attempt to elude the officer.
After a few miles, the suspect stopped on Highway 29, a couple miles west of Green Bay and refused to exit the car.
At some point during this time frame, one of the officers responding accidentally shot themselves with their weapon.
Police have not released details as to exactly how or when the gun went off, or even where the officer suffered the injury, only saying it was a non life threatening injury.
Responding officers not only had to deal with the injured officer but the suspect still barricaded in his car.
The 36-year-old 7-year veteran of the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department was taken to a Green Bay hospital and is expected to be OK.
The man surrendered a short time later.
Highway 29 remain closed for several hours while reconstruction experts reviewed details at the scene.
