Car found at bottom of Wisconsin River, 34 years after being stolen
Authorities in southwestern Wisconsin have found a stolen vehicle 34 years after it was stolen. The reason it took so long? It had been at the bottom of a local river.
Police didn’t say how they knew the car was there, but yesterday they pulled the late 80s Pontiac Gran Prix out of the Wisconsin River near an area where Richland, Iowa and Sauk Counties meet.
They identified the owner and learned the car had been stolen out of Monroe County in 1990.
The sheriff’s office said there were no suspicious items or evidence that anyone inside the car would have been hurt.
An investigation into how the car ended up in the river remains ongoing.
