Channel Your Inner Detective at Marian University’s Crime Scene House Open House

If you have ever binge-watched Criminal Minds, quoted Sherlock Holmes, or listened to true crime podcasts, this event is for you. Marian University’s Forensic Science Association (FSA) is rolling out the crime scene tape and opening the doors to its campus Crime Scene House for a hands-on, clue-filled Open House on Thursday and Friday, April 10 and 11, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at 74 S National Ave, Fond du Lac, WI (across from the Marian University campus.)

Marian’s Crime Scene house is an actual house the university purchased for the Forensic Science program, so students could practice their skills in a realistic environment.  The crime scene for the Open House is staged by students in the FSA. This interactive event invites the public to test their critical-thinking and observation skills by stepping into the shoes of first responders, investigators, and forensic scientists.

Event Highlights:

Be a First Responder: Approach the house like a first responder would to a crime scene.  What do you see?  What looks out of place?

Interview the “Witnesses”: Interact with student and staff actors, portraying witnesses.

Walk Through the Crime Scene: Explore the realistic, meticulously set-up crime scene.

Take Notes: Document your observations and gather clues.

Ask the Experts for Lab Results: Consult with Professors Diana Johnson and Kyra Schallhorn, who will provide the lab results for the evidence that was (hypothetically) submitted to the “crime lab.” Does the evidence support or refute your idea of what happened?

Make Your Call: Formulate your hypothesis about the crime and submit your guess. Results will be revealed the following Monday.
Warning:The crime scene setup is realistic and can be graphic and potentially triggering. We advise against bringing small children to this event.

No need to bring your own magnifying glass, just show up ready to investigate!  Marian’s Crime Scene House Open House is a fantastic opportunity to get acquainted with Marian University’s facilities and Forensic Science program.  We encourage you to sign up for a time slot, but walk-ins are welcome.
