City Looking For Volunteers To Fill City Boards and Commissions Slots

City of Fond du Lac government officials are asking city residents interested in the Fond du Lac community to get involved to fill positions on various City Boards and Commissions.
Boards and Commissions advise the City of Fond du Lac on issues important to the municipality. Most positions do not require extensive expertise, just a willingness to serve.
Applicants should be city residents or work in the City of Fond du Lac. Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office at 160 S Macy Street or can be found on the city’s Web site at https://www.fdl.wi.gov/your-government/boards/
Applications can be submitted in person or mailed to the City Clerk’s Office, 160 S Macy Street or emailed to mhefter@fdl.wi.gov.
The following are current Boards and Commissions openings:
Board of Appeals: The member will consider requests for exceptions or variances to the zoning ordinance in special cases where property circumstances do not allow complete compliance with city regulations. The ability to discern actual bona fide hardships or difficulties created by strict application of the zoning ordinance and apply suitable remedies, while maintain the integrity of the community’s zoning map and protecting the public welfare and safety. This commission meets the 1st Monday of each month in the City-County Government Center at 3:00pm.
Historic Preservation Commission: Members must have competence and knowledge in the historical, architectural and cultural traditions of the community. To serve in an advisory capacity to City Council in the research, inspection and investigation of sites, buildings, structures, or other objects in the City the board has reason to believe are potential landmarks. This board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the City-County Government Center at 6:00pm.
Advisory Parking and Traffic: The member must have good judgment, intelligence and ability to articulate the issues, problems and solutions as one sees them to assist the City Council in planning to meet community needs related to parking and traffic problems. This commission meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the City-County Government Center at 1:30pm.
Housing Authority: The member must recognize the housing needs of low-income families, elderly and handicapped and to provide safe and decent housing through housing units owned by the Housing Authority. This board meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at Rosalind Apartments at 3:00pm.
Alcohol License Committee: Members must have good judgment, intelligence and ability to articulate the issues to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council regarding applications for new retail alcohol licenses and possible sanctions against alcohol licenses that have violated the law. This board meets on the last Monday of the month in the City-County Government Center at 4:00pm or when called by special notice.
Downtown Architectural Review Board: The member must consider proposals for exterior changes to properties in Downtown Fond du Lac including alterations to existing buildings and new construction. Knowledge of architectural design principles. Employment or background in a field involving architecture, engineering, design, marketing, contractor or similar occupation; downtown business owner. This board meets on the first Tuesday of the month at the City-County Government Center at 12:00pm.
