City of Fond du Lac releases annual report on city drinking water

The City of Fond du Lac has released it’s annual Drinking Water Quality Report. The report contains important information about drinking water in the City of Fond du Lac.
Fond du Lac Waterworks continuously monitors and tests the water delivered to residents daily to ensure conformance with State and Federal drinking water standards and regulations. Drinking water may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The report says the presence of contaminants doesn’t indicate that water poses a health risk to the average resident, however,
Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as person with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, people who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV or other immune systems disorders, as well as
some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
Fond du lac Waterworks water comes from 17 deep wells from in and around the City of Fond du Lac. These wells range in depth from 745’ to 1,150’.
Water is then pumped to one of four water treatment plants where radium is removed, and chlorine is added as a disinfectant. Water is then stored in five different ground storage reservoirs and three elevated water towers before it is pumped through 222 miles of water main using six supply and distribution
booster pump stations before it ends up in the nearly 16,000 homes of the city.
More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection Agency’s safe drinking water hotline at 800-426-4791.
