Cleanup underway to remove derailed train near Hartford

Officials in Washington County are working to figure out what led a train to derail near Hartford yesterday.
At about 9:30 am calls started coming in for the 50 car train that had reported to derail near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Constitution Avenue, just northwest of the city.
Hartford Fire chief Tony Burgard reported the fire department arrived to three engines and 19 cars derailed with several thousand gallons of diesel fuel leaking into the ground. They were able to keep that fuel from entering into the nearby Rubicon River.
Three train conductors received minor injuries in the crash and were brought to a Hartford hospital. No evacuations were needed to be implemented and no roadways are blocked.
Clean up is now underway which is expected to take days to complete.
