Collaborative efforts of multiple public safety agencies find missing elderly man

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a report from the Camp Organizer at Long Lake Boy Scout Camp regarding a missing 74-year-old man from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 74-year-old man was serving as a Scout Leader at the camp.

Initial investigation revealed that the man was last seen at a camp gathering on the evening of Saturday, August 10, 2024. The man did not have a cellphone with him and suffers from Parkinson’s and other medical conditions.

A ground search commenced at 10:18 AM. A K9 Officer with the City of Fond du Lac Police Department attempted to conduct a K9 track, but was unsuccessful. At this time, the Officer utilized an aerial drone and conducted a grid pattern search of the area the man was last seen.

The ground search was conducted by deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, personnel with the Eden Fire Department, Eden First Responders, Campbellsport Fire Department, Campbellsport First Responders, and Campbellsport Ambulance Service.

At approximately 10:55 AM, the man was located in a densely wooded area approximately 160 yards from his cabin. He sustained minor injuries and appeared to be in a confused state. After being extricated from the wooded area, he was transported to St. Agnes Hospital for further evaluation.

The duration of his time outside and how long he had been walking remain unknown.

The response and collaborative efforts of all the public safety agencies played a crucial role in quickly locating the man and ensuring his safe return.
