Columbia County jail deputy exposed to fentanyl
A jail deputy in Columbia County was hospitalized after being exposed to fentanyl while booking a suspect into the jail on drug charges.
According to a release from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested and brought into the facility for drug charges after a traffic stop.
During the booking process, a jail deputy was inventorying the man’s belongings, and while counting money taken from the man, she unfolded a bill which contained a powdery substance which became airborne directly into the face of the deputy, causing exposure.
The powder tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine and the deputy got immediate care and was provided Narcan. She was then taken to a local hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.
