Community Rallies to Support Family of Fallen Teen

More than $100,000 has been raised to support the family of a Green Bay area teen who died after a brief battle with Influenza A and Strep B. 14-year-old Ava Rae Schmidt passed away December 21st. According to a Go Fund Me page created in her honor: “She loved being around animals; especially her dog Finley and lizard Pogue. She loved children and was always ready for the next babysitting job. Shopping and painting were just a couple of other things she loved to do. But where her heart spent most of its energy was on family. She adored her little sister, Gabby and was very close to both her mom, Katerina, and dad, Mike. She spent much time with her extended family and grandparents. Her cousins were amongst her closest friends.”

The site was created to help the family with expenses and to create a scholarship in Ava’s honor. The family says they are humbled by the outpouring of generosity and support.
