Congressman Petri Congratulates Art Winner
Congressman Tom Petri this week congratulated the winner of the 2014 Sixth District Art Competition at a reception in Washington, D.C. This year’s winner is Sarah Olson from Neenah High School for her drawing entitled “Lost in Thought.”
Sarah recently graduated from Neenah High School and will be attending UW-Stout in the fall. She plans to major in graphic design with the hope of concentrating on art therapy as a way to put her artistic talent to use helping others. Sarah’s drawing will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Sarah and her mother were invited to travel to Washington for a national reception to honor winning artists from across the country.
“Sarah is an exceptional artist, and I’m very proud to have her artwork represent the Sixth District in the U.S. Capitol,” said Petri. “I wish her the best of luck with her future endeavors.”
The annual Art Competition encourages high school artists in participating congressional districts to submit paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography for district-wide competition. Judging for the Sixth District Art Competition was done by UW-Oshkosh art professors Andrew Redington and Dr. Mary Hoefferle. Forty-six students from sixteen high schools submitted artwork for the competition. The winner and runners-up were announced at a reception at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac on Saturday, April 26.
