Construction on I-41 in Fond du Lac County slows traffic to a crawl

Construction on I-41 had travelers in a slow crawl for much of the day yesterday. Initially, the southbound lanes between Highway 26 in Winnebago County and County N in Fond du Lac County were to be completely closed until 5 AM yesterday morning after closing at 9 pm the previous night, but DOT cameras showed the stretch of highway still closed at 7 AM. With traffic down to one lane as it was forced off the highway at 26, a backup occurred there all the way north to past Highway 44. Once the highway was opened up, traffic moved very slowly through the construction zone. One KFIZ listener said it took an hour and 15 minutes to go from the southside of Oshkosh to Fond du Lac around mid day yesterday.
Talk on social media had similar stories with those stuck in traffic advising others that may be going that way to take alternative routes.
The northbound side of the same stretch of highway was scheduled to close down last night at 9 PM and reopen this morning morning at 5 AM, weather permitting but that didn’t happen.
When the DOT initially announced the closures, it said should construction be hampered by weather, the closures would be postponed one day to Wednesday, however rain is again forecasted for tonight so it’s unknown if the highway will be closed tonight or not.
