Conversations, Connections, and Community Returns to Marian University

The public is invited to Conversations, Connections, and Community, at Marian University.  It’s a day-long series of meaningful discussions on higher education and career development, taking place on September 19, 2024, starting at 9:25 am at Marian’s Stayer Center. This gathering, which is during Homecoming week, will bring together Marian faculty, staff, students, alumni, local community leaders, and the general public.

The day-long event provides an opportunity for attendees to share insights and build lasting connections. Participants will hear from a wide range of speakers and professionals about their perspectives on navigating professional life and contributing to their communities.
Topics will include:

  • Navigating Career Stages: Insights on Balancing Work and Life
  • Your Vote, Your Future: Understanding the Power of Voting
  • Eight Dimensions of Wellness: Balancing Personal & Professional Life for Success
  • Career Conversation Round-table Discussion

Conversations, Connections and Community started last year as a way to showcase Marian talent, as well as engage students with valuable professionals beyond the Marian community.

     Marian University was founded in 1936 by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes, a group

Schedule for Conversations, Connections and Community

Session 1: Navigating Career Stages: Insights on Balancing Work and Life

9:25–10:40 a.m.


This panel discussion will explore the four stages of career progression: establishment, advancement, maintenance, and retirement. Attendees will hear from professionals at various stages in their careers as they share strategies for maintaining professional competence while balancing personal relationships, family, and other interests.


Session 2: Your Vote, Your Future: Understanding the Power of Voting

10:50 a.m.–12:05 p.m.


This engaging and interactive session will emphasize the importance of voting and how it shapes both individual and collective futures. Participants will gain practical knowledge about the voting process and how to make informed decisions in elections. A light lunch will be served during this session.


Session 3: Eight Dimensions of Wellness: Balancing Personal & Professional Life for Success

12:15–1:30 p.m.


This session will explore the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and their impact on both personal and professional life. Attendees will learn how imbalances in wellness can affect leadership abilities and team performance. The session will offer practical strategies for achieving balance and thriving in all aspects of life.


Session 4: Career Conversation Round-table Discussion

1:40–2:55 p.m.


The event will conclude with a round-table discussion that connects students with Marian alumni, local business leaders, faculty, and professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, build networks, and receive guidance on navigating their professional journey from college to career.
