Could National Anthem Protests Move Into High School Sports
It hasn’t happened yet in the area, but as protests during the playing of the National Anthem in professional sports expand it could eventually trickle down to high school sports. The Fond du Lac School District doesn’t have a policy regarding the Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says it is a personal choice whether kids or adults choose to stand while the Pledge is being said or the Anthem being played. He feels the school district does have a role in national debates like this. Namely that is to make sure kids are getting multiple perspectives. Sebert says it isn’t a matter of if protests like those seen during NFL games making their way into schools, but when. He thinks protests will expand during the NBA season and potentially spread to college and eventually high school sports.
