Crashes And A Fire Snarl Busy Traffic Conditions North Of Fond du Lac County
Highway 41 was closed twice this morning, Monday, July 24, 2023. Once in Winnebago County and once in Outagamie county.
At about 9AM a crash on the southbound side near Oshkosh closed the highway between Highways 44 and 26. Two semis were involved and it was reported one of the drivers was unconscious. Flight for Life and numerous emergency personnel responded to the scene. The crash occurred during one of the busiest travel days of the year in the Oshkosh area due to the opening of EAA’s Airventure.
Less than two hours later around 10:30, a van fire also on the southbound side west of Richmond Street near Appleton not only closed the highway so firefighters could extinguish the blaze, but the highway remained closed for two hours while highway crews cleaned an oil spill over the lanes that occurred related to the fire.
Another crash affected southbound lanes again in Winnebago County around 1:15 PM near 9th avenue. This crash closed the two left lanes in the area for nearly two hours while emergency crews worked the scene.
Patient conditions and the cause of each incident were not available.
