Dead Bird Hotline
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller urges county residents to call them or the state’s dead bird hotline if they see any dead birds in the next month or so. She says it is their first indication that the mosquito borne West Nile virus might be in the area. She says people at the state hotline can talk you through what you need to do. She says it is the best way to determine if West Nile virus is circulating in the community. She says it is early yet and West Nile hasn’t been reported in the area. West Nile isn’t usually serious, but it can make you sick. Symptoms include fever, headache, eye pain, muscle aches, joint pain, rash around the trunk or swollen lymph nodes, nausea and vomiting. To call the County Health Department dial (920) 929-3085. The state’s dead bird hotline is 1-800-433-1610.
