Deer hunters will see largest herd numbers in a decade this year

Gun deer hunting season starts Saturday, November 18, 2023, and with a larger than normal herd, the DNR says that for the first time in a decade hunters will be allowed to kill does in every Wisconsin county.

The Wisconsin DNR suggests hunters get all deer tested for chronic wasting disease and to dispose of carcasses in landfills or in trash bins that they’ve placed around the state to slow the spread of the disease.

The DNR encourages the public who are not hunting but will be out in rural areas to make themselves visible with bright, reflective clothing.

The gun deer hunting season lasts for nine days, ending on November 26.
