Deer VS Motorcycle Crashes Kill One, Injure Another In Fond du Lac County

A 57-year-old Kewauskum woman was seriously injured when the motorcycle she was driving collided with a deer that ran out in front of her Sunday evening, June 18, 2023.

The crash occurred around 7 PM on County Highway F near County Highway W in the Town of Eden.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office along with Campbellsport Ambulance and fire department responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies found the woman, who was the only person on the motorcycle, with serious injuries but in stable condition. Due to her injuries, Flight for Life was requested to the scene and flew the woman to ThedaCare Trauma Center in Neenah.

Police say she was traveling Eastbound on County Highway F through the curves approaching County Highway W when a deer ran out into the roadway. The woman collided with the deer before falling from her motorcycle. Two other motorcyclist who were traveling with her, were able to avoid the collision.

County Highway F was shut down between County Highway W and Happy Road for approximately 1 hour while emergency crews worked the scene.

A 48-year-old Winnebago County man was killed Friday night, June 16, 2023 near Ripon when he was hit by a vehicle after being thrown from the motorcycle he was driving because of striking a deer.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 11:35 PM on Hwy 23 near Silver Creek Road in the Town of Ripon.

Preliminary investigation showed that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Hwy 23 when he struck a deer, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle, landing in the roadway.

A westbound vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Ripon man didn’t see the prior collision occur and struck the motorcyclist.

First responders and good Samaritans that had witnessed the crash provided lifesaving efforts to the driver but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Traffic on Highway 23 was re-routed for approximately three hours while the Fond du Lac County Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.

The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet, and neither speed nor alcohol appear to have contributed to the initial or secondary crash.
