Deputies/Civilian Take Evasive Action To Avoid Being Struck By Impaired Driver

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies were conducting a welfare check Sunday, April 9, 2023 on Forest Ave just East of Townline Rd in the Town of Lamartine where a citizen
was walking on the road and potentially in a state of crisis.

Deputies were parked on the north shoulder of Forest Ave with their emergency lights and headlights activated while speaking with the person when they noticed an
east bound vehicle traveling towards them.

Deputies noted that the vehicle began to accelerate as it neared their location, swerving left of the centerline almost striking the three deputies and citizen. The deputies along with the citizen, had to move out of the way in order to avoid being struck.

The vehicle struck the push bumper of one of the patrol squads with its driver side mirror.

After striking the patrol squad, the vehicle accelerated and continued traveling eastbound on Forest Avenue.

One of the Deputies was able to catch up to the suspect vehicle, stopping it on Esterbrook Road, just south of Highway 23.

The driver was identified as a 22-year-old man from Brandon. He was ultimately arrested on suspicion of operating while impaired and is currently being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and the City of Fond du Lac Police Department assisted on scene.
