DNR Awards Planning Grant Monies Of Lake Winnebago And Upriver Lakes
Among the 215 grants the DNR has awarded for surface water planning projects are grants for comprehensive planning for Lake Winnebago and the Upriver Lakes. Four grants totaling nearly $68,000 have been awarded for planning for Lake Winnebago, Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Poygan, and Lake Winneconne. DNR Lakes and Rivers Team Leader Shelly Thomsen calls it a significant project. An additional grant of more than $140,000 has been awarded for Aquatic Invasive Species Education, Prevention and Planning for the Winnebago System. The Winnebago Lakes cover 167,000 acres, span five counties and comprise 17 percent of Wisconsin’s surface water area. A total of $3.1 million in grants were awarded to projects in 67 counties.
