DNR Called To Put Down Sick Deer That Wandered Into Fond du Lac Residential Area

An injured/sick deer was called into the Fond du Lac County Communications Center Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in the 900 block of Carriage Lane. The reporting person stated a deer that looked sick, was in the roadway.
A responding City of Fond du Lac Police Officer arrived on scene and observed the deer standing in the roadway and advised dispatch to get ahold of a DNR warden.
While waiting for the warden to arrive, the deer wandered into a front yard of a residence in the area.

A DNR Warden arrived and while observing the deer to make a decision on how to handle the situation, it began running down the street.

The deer came close to running into a patio door and the decision was made to put down the deer which the DNR Warden did.
After a quick examination, the deer was observed to be blind in one eye and have severely impaired vision in the other and blood was coming out of it’s mouth.
The Wisconsin DNR says if you find a wild animal that you believe to be sick or injured, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Never attempt to rehabilitate wildlife on your own. If you do not know the number to the DNR or a rehabilitator, contact your local law enforcement office and they will make the call.
