Dock Spiders Rally Past the Mud Puppies
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders pulled away from the Minnesota Mud Puppies 10-3 behind a seven-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Mud Puppies took an early lead in the top of the first, but the Dock Spiders answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on a Joey Arend home run, a Carter Christenson RBI double and a Reed Strohmeyer RBI single.
After four straight scoreless innings, the Mud Puppies scored in the top of the sixth to make it a 3-2 game. Then, in the seventh inning, the Dock Spiders erupted for seven runs to take a 10-2 lead. The rally featured a wild pitch, a passed ball, a hit-by-pitch, a walk, a Quincy Mazeke sacrifice fly and a Joey Monetti RBI single.
Minnesota scored once in the ninth, but the Dock Spiders closed out a 10-3 victory for their 17th home win of the season.
A pivotal moment came when Tommy Googins stole his 38th base of the season, giving the Dock Spiders their 100th stolen base at home this year and triggering a $5,000 donation from Silica For Your Home to the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac.
The Dock Spiders finished with seven hits and drew eight walks. Catcher Joey Monetti led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Nolan Meis earned his second win of the season after pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief.
The Dock Spiders begin their final home-and-home series against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Friday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Witter Field.
Fond du Lac returns to Herr-Baker Field on Saturday for a 4:05 p.m. matchup against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Saturday is Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Badger Soft Water. Fans can celebrate the final regular-season home game with special drawings, surprises and giveaways throughout the evening. Following the game, kids can enjoy Kids Run the Bases, presented by Grande Cheese and A&W, featuring a player high-five line and a treat from A&W at home plate.
