Dock Spiders Shutout by Rafters at Home 2-0
FOND DU LAC, WI – Coming off of their big win over the Woodchucks on Saturday night 10-3, The Dock Spiders squared off with the other top team in the Great Lakes West Division the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Rafters struck first as they scored one run in the top of the first inning. Dock Spiders starting pitcher Joseph Chavana (Trinity) settled in after that as he hurled seven innings of two run ball and tallied six strikeouts on the day. The Dock Spiders offense had some opportunities with runners in scoring position, but double plays plagued the offense as the Rafters turned eight double plays on the afternoon. The Dock Spiders posted six hits on the day led by center fielder Connor Cooney (Holy Cross) and Right fielder Jack Peterson (Trinity). Cooney went 2-4 while Peterson went 2-3 and added a stolen base to his line. The Rafter hammered the nail into the coffin in the top of the seventh inning.
Two singles off the bats of Rafters center fielder Ty Johnson (Baylor) and Right Fielder Logan Hugo (Eastern Michigan) set the table for designated hitter Brendan Bobo (Cal State Fullerton). Bobo grounded a ball to Teddy Deters but Ty Johnson advanced home as he scored the second run of the afternoon for the Rafters. The Dock Spiders had a chance to score in the bottom of the ninth after Connor Cooney singled up the middle, but he was stranded on base. The loss dropped the Dock Spiders to 12-22 on the season.
