Documentary Part Of Black Maria Film Fest At UW FDL
Fond du Lac, Wis. – The next Black Maria Film Festival event at UW-Fond du Lac offers a unique opportunity not only to view a screening of “The Land Beneath Our Feet,” but also to meet the refugee featured in the film and the associate producer of the documentary. The screening of the film begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in the Prairie Theater, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac, Wis.
The film weaves together rare archival footage from a 1926 Harvard expedition to Liberia with the journey of a refugee from Liberia’s second civil war. Emmanuel Urey, the Liberian man centrally featured in the film, and associate producer Jojin Van Winkle of UW-Madison, will be present at the screening to talk about the film and lead a question and answer period. Today, Urey is pursuing a doctoral degree in the United States, while helping to advance land reforms in Liberia. “The Land Beneath Our Feet” was produced and directed by Gregg Mitman and Sarita Siegel.
The Black Maria Film Festival attracts and showcases the work of independent filmmakers internationally. UW-Fond du Lac is the only venue in Wisconsin on the 2017 tour.
The UW-Fond du Lac Fine Arts and Lecture Committee sponsors this event. For more information, contact Kathy Strong-Langolf, kathy.stronglangolf@uwc.edu or call (920) 929-1138.
