Dodge County official charged with having a gun in an elementary school

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is having an outside jurisdiction investigate a county official who reportedly brought a concealed gun into a school in the county Tuesday.

According to Sheriff Dale Schmidt, school board member and county board supervisor Daniel Siegman had gone to the Herman/Neosho/Rubicon Elementary School to meet with the District Administrator. While there, the sheriff’s office took five calls reporting that Siegman was in the school with a gun.

Because Siegman has a long standing and publicly known highly critical opinion of sheriff’s office operations, it was determined that the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office shouldn’t conduct the investigation, but rather an outside agency should be brought in and make appropriate decisions after the investigation to avoid the appearance of bias. Therefore the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office was requested to assist with the investigation.

Siegman was placed under arrest prior to the May 15 School Board Meeting. He was transported to the Dodge County Jail and charges will be requested for Possession of a Firearm in a School.
